Lucas is a southwest Missouri native. Studying both piano and voice from the age of 5, Lucas continued his studies by attending undergraduate and graduate school at Oklahoma City University where he received degrees in Vocal Performance, Vocal Music Education, and Choral Conducting. While in Oklahoma City, he maintained a voice and piano studio of nearly 50 students and taught music education, voice and conducting at his alma mater. Additionally, he has professional experience in the performance world. He has been seen in nearly 30 productions both university and professional alike.
Entering his 7th year of teaching, he brings a varied, informed, and individual approach to his pedagogy: “I believe that music is powerful and emotional, thus a large part of learning to sing and play is overcoming a fear of judgment and indulging in the excitement. Singing should first and foremost be about an individual’s passions. Then, together, we identify strengths and weaknesses, magnify the strengths, and navigate the areas of opportunity utilizing a classical foundation, and most importantly, emphasize the joy of the art. It should always be about the love of the music, regardless of genre.”
Lucas has a history of success with students winning competitions, getting cast in major productions, and getting top scholarships at colleges of choice. He is tremendously excited to be a part of an amazing group of teachers at Sandy Springs Music.
