FAQs

Sandy Springs Music

  • Do I have to come every week, or can I come once or twice a month?

We offer two options for lesson scheduling. Our subscription plan guarantees a consistent weekly time slot, automatically renewing every 4 weeks. For those preferring flexibility, we provide lesson packages that allow you to book sessions up to 4 weeks in advance through our website.
  • How do I enroll?

Enrolling in music lessons is straightforward. You can use the contact form on our website, utilize our online booking system, or call us directly. We'll help you find an instructor who matches your musical goals and schedule.
  • What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy for lessons?

We require a minimum of 12 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. If a cancellation is made within 12 hours of the scheduled lesson, it won't be eligible for makeups or credits. In such cases, we'll see you at your next scheduled lesson.
  • How old do you have to be to learn an instrument?

The appropriate age varies by instrument and child. This is what we recommend for most: children aged 5–6 can start with piano, drums, or violin. Most other instruments are suitable for students aged 7 and up. We typically suggest beginning guitar around age 8, while younger students can start with the ukulele, which serves as a great transition to guitar later on.
  • How long will it take me to learn how to play?

Learning progress varies significantly between individuals. Similar to mastering a sport or a new language, consistent practice is key to improvement. While lessons provide guidance and structure, your progress is primarily determined by your practice between sessions. More frequent practice typically leads to faster improvement.
  • How much should I practice between lessons?

Practice requirements vary by age, but consistency is crucial. Daily practice, even if brief, is more effective than infrequent, longer sessions. As a general guideline, we recommend 10-20 minutes daily for ages 5-8, and 20-30 minutes daily for ages 9 and up. Regular practice helps build muscle memory efficiently.
  • Do you provide books or teaching materials?

Our instructors use various books and materials to support lessons. If a specific book is recommended, you'll be asked to purchase it, typically costing around $10. Teachers often supplement with additional materials such as sheet music or custom exercises, especially for songs not found in standard books.
  • Do you provide instruments for lessons?

We have pianos available in all studios, and guitars and violins for trial lessons or emergencies. We also offer rentals for keyboards, guitars, basses, violins, and violas. For brass and woodwind instruments, students need to bring or rent their own for hygiene reasons.
  • Is 30 minutes a week really enough to learn?

For beginners and younger students, 30-minute lessons are generally sufficient. This duration allows time to cover new material and establish practice goals. More advanced students or those seeking faster progress may benefit from 60-minute lessons. We suggest starting with 30-minute sessions and increasing the duration as needed.
  • Can multiple students take lessons at the same time?

When multiple instructors are available simultaneously, we can often accommodate siblings or friends for concurrent lessons. While availability may vary, we strive to arrange simultaneous lessons whenever possible.
